apprenticeships
Apprentices are those who have come to Missio Dei to learn about our way of life. At Missio Dei, the apprenticeship period is at least 9 months long. It can be a time where someone comes to learn about Christian intentional community with the goal of moving on at the end of the apprenticeship. Others come intending (or at least open to the possibility) of becoming members of Missio Dei at the end of their internship.
Below is information about the apprenticeship process.
- An apprentice commits a minimum of 9 months. After that, they may either move on from our community or seek membership.
- We suggest a monthly donation of $350-$400/month (depending upon room) to help with housing costs, but we’re flexible and willing to look into other arrangements.
- In the beginning of their stay, apprentices are usually paired with a community member that journeys with them into the community and helps to orient them to our way of life.
- Apprentices will meet with a community member (usually Mark) every week (or every other week) to check in, discuss any readings, and any other personal “assignments” designed to help the apprentice maximize their experience at Missio Dei.
- They will be expected to keep their work or school load to 40 hours a week or less.
- They will be expected to volunteer in the neighborhood.
- After the apprentice gets acclimated to our way of life, we’ll encourage them to take on more community responsibilities.
