md house
Missio Dei currently has one community house–though we’re looking for more. Our community house is a place of hospitality, friendship, and prayer.
We try to pray together in the evenings, following the Missio Dei Breviary. We also encourage everyone to follow the morning prayer on their own.
Wednesday night is our community meal. That night we make a large meal and welcome everyone to dinner. We’ve had anything from 4 to 26 people show up for our community meal.
On Saturday morning we have breakfast and invite anyone who has ever lived in the house…which has been a lot of people over the past 3 years. The emphasis of Saturday morning is to care for one another.
Our community house has 6 rooms. While we always make sure one guest room is always available, we often have room for another housemate.
Being a part of the house would mean that you’d be committing to the life of Missio Dei. If necessary, we’d be willing to offer a 3 month trial period, after which you may opt out if it doesn’t seem like a fit.
OPPORTUNITIES TO GROW
This could be a great opportunity for you to take a step deeper into the way of Jesus. Maybe you’ve been pondering the “neo-monastic” life. Perhaps you’ve been an admirer of Dorothy Day or St. Francis or Rich Mullins. Maybe you read Shane Claiborne’s book and now you feel haunted. This may be an opportunity for you to take the next step.
In addition to the regular rhythms of life, you’d be a part of a community that will help you rethink what it means to follow Jesus. None of us are experts…none of us are gurus. But we are grappling with the way of Jesus. And we’re doing it together. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stayed up late talking about the radical stuff of Jesus with someone in the community. Usually this happens after one of our hospitality meals…or after one of our Christarchy gatherings.
